Four & Fioriture

Two new works for dancers and immersive audio, created collaboratively by Peter O’Doherty with Echo Echo Ensemble and Steve Batts.

Sunday 11 February 2024

14:00 - 18:00 Four (with Echo Echo Ensemble)

19:00 - 19:30 Fioriture (with Steve Batts)

Four is an extended, durational piece for four dancers and immersive sound, and lasts four hours. The piece invites contemplation, introspection and a heightened awareness of how movement, gesture and sound work with, against and alongside time. Audience members are invited to stay for a shorter or longer period and are welcome to come and go, and to experience the piece evolving throughout the afternoon.

Fioriture is a shorter piece for solo dancer and immersive sound. The “little flowers” of ornamentation that the title suggests form the central impulse of the music (a piece for solo flute performed by Aisling Agnew). It creates a world of elaboration, embellishment and decoration, in time and space, of phrases - both sounded and danced.

The two works were co-developed during intensive workshops and discussions with the dancers of the Echo Echo Ensemble and with Steve Batts, Artistic Director of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company.

These two performances are the culmination of a mentoring and career development programme that Peter O’Doherty undertook with Echo Echo Dance Theatre and Steve Batts in the course of 2023.
